GERMANY, Westerbrork, transit Concentration camp in Holland, ten cents (4), series AA 4920, BB (2) 3213 and 3291, CC 0990; twenty five cents prefix AA (2), 0476, and 4711; fifty cents, prefix AA (2) 2405, 3274; one hundred cents series AA 3052, BB 3202, CC 4913; (Campbell No. 4171-4174). Fine and rare. (11)
Ex Sydney Levine Collection. Westerbork was a refugee camp for Jews leaving Germany during the 1930's but following German occupation of Holland it was turned into a transit concentration camp holding prisoners awaiting transportation to death camps in Poland. In the late 1960's a small hoard of about 300 complete sets were found in the possession of a former inmate and have entered the market and it is believed included these notes in this sale.
