PEEK AND CAMPBELL - SYDNEY TEA STORES, Sydney penny, 1852 (A.427A; Heyde 247/2) five lines of legend on obverse, reverse as A.427. One of the rarest tokens by J.C. Thornthwaite. Even brown tone, very fine and excessively rare, the finest of two known.

Ex Noble Numismatics Sale 57 (lot 555, from an English collection, previously unknown to the market) and W.G. & L.M. Wright Collection, Noble Numismatics Sale 89B (lot 2099). The other example recorded by G. Heyde was last sold by us in Sale 29 (lot 2806) and is now in the Moran Collection.
