NICHOLAS II, (1894 - 1917), 1896 dated Medal or ’Coronation Rouble’ comprising 50 medals or pattern roubles in polished pewter and 50 medals or pattern roubles in golden alloy and 50 medals or pattern roubles in high grade copper, struck to a prooflike/proof finish in limited quantities, FDC. (150)

From a total mintage of only 650 pieces of each metal. The coronation of Nicholas II and Alexandra was a spectacle of pomp and ceremony, but the reign was soon blighted by a relentless flow of domestic and international problems which were virtually beyond the control of Nicholas. He was well-meaning and honourable, but in many ways unsuited to the exacting demands of the times.
