CATHERINE II, (The Great), (1762 - 1796), 1762 dated Medal or ’Accession Rouble’ comprising 50 medals or pattern roubles in golden alloy, 50 medals or pattern roubles in polished pewter and 50 medals or pattern roubles in high grade copper, struck to a prooflike/proof finish in limited quantities, FDC. (150)

From a total mintage of only 875 pieces of each metal. At the age of 14 Catherine came to Russia as the bride of the heir to the throne Peter Feodorovich and they married in 1745. Bright, industrious, highly intelligent and strong willed, she quickly mastered the Russian language and began even correspondence with Voltaire. She overthrew her unpopular husband and started one of the most prosperous periods in Russian history.
