VICTORIAN CONSTABULARY, July 1862, three pages of original handwritten copies of instructions and a Gold Escort Return. Two pages of blue, ruled foolscap from a book believed to have been maintained at the Kilmore Police Station during a period which included 1862, and numbered 209 to 212. The book believed to have been maintained as a 'Correspondence & Instructions Book'. It contains handwritten instructions at page 209 which are dated 26th July, 1862, titled 'Circular No.44'. The handwritten instructions relate to Forms and Regulations' respecting the introduction of the Immigration Act' and are from the Chief Commissioner of Police, Captain Frederick Charles Standish. This entry is followed by a Memo to the Officer in Charge, Kilmore Police from Inspector David D.Chambers instructing that police will use every exertion in carrying out the provisions of the Immigration Act. Pages 210 and 211 consist of a handwritten copy of a 'Return' to the Officer in Charge, Richmond Depot, Inspector Purcell Dillon, for the 'Gold Escort from Beechworth to Melbourne', apparently completed for a period ceasing on 26th July, 1862. Very fine.
