CHARLES I, (1625 - 1649), Tower mint under Parliament, silver crown, mm (R) over (P) both sides, issued 1644-5, Group IV, (28.89 grams), rev. group of four pellets either side of mint mark, (S.2761, N.2198, Cooper XXI+/XXIX+). Toned, fine/good fine and extremely rare.

Ex Spink London, March 1985 and previously from the collection of Lord (Rodney) Smith of Marlow Collection (No.72), previously from the Spink Auctions No.6, 11 October 1979 (lot 33) coming from the N. Asherson Collection who bought it from Spink, coming from the J.H. Hartley Collection, Glendining's London, 9 December 1959 (lot 33). Cooper only notes two crowns from these dies with the overstruck mint mark, namely in the Royal Mint Collection and that formerly in the Lockett Collection.
