MEXICO, Charles and Johanna, (1516-1556), pillar type four reales, Assayer G (Juan Gutierrez), issued continued until 1572 (after his death). Waterworn, otherwise fine or better.

Ex Downie's Auction June 2003 (lot 1021). The wreck that this coin comes from is uncertain but could be the "Atocha" or an unidentified wreck of c.1554 off Santa Domingo. Both these wrecks had recovered similar coins of this type.
