JAPAN, Commemorative of Great Asia War Medal, replacement medal issued after 1945 for veterans. In black lacquered case of issue, uncirculated and scarce.
About 10,000 medals were struck originally at Osaka Mint. A few posthumous awards were made and then after the surrender all stocks were destroyed, hence the need for the replacement medal.
