RUSSIA, small, charming watercolour of a central Cossack riding, cossack groups in the background and with buildings behind, by N. Samokish, 8.5cm x 13.5cm, bordered and set into a large frame. (30cm x 34cm)

Nikolai Semenovich Samokish, born in Ukraine 1860, studied at Imperial Academy of Arts, founding member of St Petersburg Society of Artists, specialised in battle pictures, taught at Imperial Academy of Arts 1912-17, Rostov-on-Don Art School 1920s-30s, Kharkov Art Institute 1936-41, awarded Stalin Prize 1941, died 1944.
