ITALY, Bruttium, Caulonia, silver third stater, 460-450 B.C. (Kraay chronology), (2.176 grams), obv. Apollo naked walking to right, before him a stag standing to right, looking back, KAV behind, rev. stag standing to right, before a sapling growing, KAV retrograde above, (S.464 [same dies], SNG Lloyd 588 [same dies], SNG Lockett 590 [same dies], SNG ANS 216-7 [same dies], Noe 212 [same dies]). Fine and rare.

Noe notes that this rare denomination in this period comes from only eleven sets of dies and for forty three examples. This die combination is known for eleven examples and these are mostly in public collections.
