MACEDON, Kingdom of Philip II, (359-336 B.C.), gold stater, (8.582 grams), Pella IIIC mint, issued c.314-310 B.C., obv. head of Apollo to right with laureate wreath, rev. galloping biga to right driven by charioteer holding kentron in right hand, reins in left hand, horizontal thunderbolt below horses, in exergue **FILIPPOU*, (cf.S.6663, Le Rider Group IIIC Pl.73, No.624 [Obv. D259, rev. R451 [same dies]), Hunter 13, SNG ANS 203). Nearly extremely fine and very scarce.
