VICTORIAN GOVERNMENT PRIZE ESSAYS, 1860, in silver (51mm), plain silver disc engraved both sides, on obverse 'Victorian Government Prize Essays 1860 / Second Prize / J.Brache Esqr', and on reverse 'Subject No.1 / Collection and Storage of / Water & C. / Royal Society of / Victoria / 1860'. Good very fine.

A prize of one hundred and twenty five pounds was awarded by the Victorian Government for the best essay on each of four subjects relating to the progress of Victoria. The Royal Society of Victoria organised the competition and published the winning entries.
