VABALATHUS AS AUGUSTUS, (A.D. 271-2), antoninianus, Antioch mint, (2.820 grams), obv. radiate draped bust of Vabalathus to right, around [IM C VH]A BALATH[VS AVG], rev. Venus standing to left, holding helmet and spear, leaning on shield, star to left, [E] in exergue, around [VENVS A]VG, (cf.S.3294, RIC 5 [R3], C.5). Some corrosion and legend loss, otherwise nearly fine and extremely rare.
