(CALIGULA), from Pannonia, period of Caligula or later (A.D. 37-50), (5.112 grams), AE 24 with two countermarks of AICV within square on Augustus dupondius uncertain type, (Martini, Nom.6, Pangerl Collection of Countermarked Imperial coins type -). Countermarks very fine, host coin poor the countermark apparently unpublished.

Martini does not list these letters. It is probable that the reading should be (AV)GV which would mean Augu(stus). It is struck on an issue of Augustus which is rather worn and would fit into a Flavian era of countermarking. In fact Martini note (AV)G issues for Pannonia (type 75) which are very similar in style (eg.75f) to this piece above.
