GROUP OF SIX: Distinguished Flying Cross (GVIR), first type; 1939-45 Star; France & Germany Star; Defence Medal 1939-45 in silver; Canadian Volunteer Service Medal 1939-45 - bar Overseas Service; British War Medal 1939-45 in silver. 1945 officially engraved on the first medal, F/O Can. J.28235 No.429 Sqdn, privately engraved on the second medal, the other medals un-named. Very fine.

Flying Officer John Walker Murray, R.C.A.F., of Glace Bay, Nova Scotia, born 1921, appointed Pilot Officer, R.C.A.F., 09Jul1943. DFC. L.G.:27Mar1945: Flying Officer, No. 429 (R.C.A.F.) Squadron. The recommendation states 'Throughout his tour of operations Flying Officer Murray has shown himself to be a keen and courageous bomb-aimer whose skill and determination have played a large part in the successful completion of many missions. He has participated in many attacks against heavily defended targets in the Ruhr Valley. On one occasion his aircraft was damaged while over the target and his eye was injured. Despite the resultant pain he released his bombs and secured an excellent photograph before informing his captain of his injury. His fortitude and devotion to duty have been most commendable.' Together with two flying log books covering February 1942 - November 1944, original Canadian commission document 09Jul1943, R.C.A.F. service and paybook, six original photographs, an aircrew whistle, I.D. disc, case of issue for the D.F.C. and a glazed studio portrait (colour tinted) of him in uniform in a decorative frame size 12" x 10".
