GROUP OF FOUR: Military Cross (GVR); 1914-15 Star; British War Medal 1914-18; Victory Medal 1914-19 (M.I.D). Capt W.H.G.Segrave 2nd Battery Aug.10th 1917 on Military Cross, 2168 Gnr W.H.G.Segrave 3/F.A.Bde A.I.F. on second medal, Captain W.H.G.Segrave A.I.F. on third and fourth medals. Military Cross engraved, other medals impressed. Good very fine.

William Henry Gilbert Segrave. Captain, served in Egypt, on Gallipoli, France, Belgium. Enl.21Aug1914, W.I.A.(gassed) 06Nov1917 Belgium, R.T.A.25Jan1919. MC. L.G.: 18Oct1917, C.G.: 14Feb1918 No.19 'On 10th August 1917, this officer was F.O.O. with "C" Group. His task was to move to Westhoek Ridge. This he succeeded in doing under great difficulty. Throughout the day he obtained and transmitted most valuable information. He assisted Lieut Lord also of "C" Group to capture six prisoners and a number of enemy maps near Westhoek. Owing to the postponement of the operation his task lasted 48 hours. He returned with valuable information. He showed splendid iniative and disregard of danger.' Together with ANZAC medallion, Jones Challenge shield medal in silver, inscribed 'Tug of War / for the / Jones Challenge Shield / 7th Year Winners / Commercial Union / Crystal palace / 1st June / 1912', silver fob inscribed 'S.A.C. / Team Race / 1906', photograph and photocopies of service record.
