ITALY, Lucania, Metapontum, (c.400-350 B.C.), silver nomos, stater or didrachm, (7.436 grams), obv. female head of Kore or Demeter to right, K reversed behind neck, rev. corn ear, to left META upwards, grasshopper to right upwards above the broad leaf, (cf.S.409, Noe 404 [p.77 same dies], BMC -, SNG ANS 319 [same dies], SNG Lloyd 337 [same dies], SNG Munich 958 [same dies], McClean 930 [same dies]). Toned, double struck on the obverse, extremely fine and a rare type.
