SOLD $520

INDO-SCYTHIAN, Azes, (58 - 20/19 B.C., Senior chronology), Azes II (c.35 B.C. - A.D.5, Mitchiner chronology), silver drachms of various types as part of a large hoard containing a wide range of letters and symbols in field. The hoard is almost all of the Zeus Nikephoros group, (noted however a drachm of Hermaios [cf.M.2020]) and this group was struck towards the end of Azes reign, The bulk of the types are represented on Senior's part III 'Easy Finder' (p.27-28), but earlier examples are present. Almost all have porosity from poor conservation but are identifiable, poor - nearly very fine. (780)

Senior clearly believes there is only one king called Azes (p.89) and Mitchiner's Azes II coinage is in fact part of the extensive coinage that includes the posthumous coinage of only the one king Azes.
