Ex Noble Numismatics Auction Sale 81 (lot 3606) This issue of small silver mahmudies (c.5.5 grams) of about half rupee weight are called `mahmudi'and circulated in Surat in the late 16th century. They bear the name of Akbar and titles and copy silver coins of Ahmadabad, but they were not products of a Mogul mint. The Rajah of Baglana struck these mahmudis at his Muhler mint for the traders at Surat, located near Bombay.
