THRACE, Maroneia, (c.189 - 145 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.138 grams), obv. head of young Dionysos to right, wreathed with ivy and band across forehead, rev. Dionysos naked standing to left, holding grapes and two narthex wands, to right **DIONUSOU*, to left **SWTHROS, below **MAPWNITWN, monograms to left and right below, (cf.S.1635, Schonert-Geiss 1115-7 [obv. die 34, rev. die -], BMC 59 [p.128 similar dies]). Large flan, well centred of the best style for these pieces, nearly extremely fine and very rare only 19 pieces known for this monogram group.

A similar but not as attractive example in Sale 68 (lot 1815) realised $1980.
