ANDRONICUS II, (sole reign 1282-1295), gold hyperpyron (scyphate), Constantinople mint, (4.032 grams), obv. bust of Virgin within city walls and six towers, control letters (sigla) C and Z to left and right, rev. Andronicus II with nimbus crouching before Christ, in five lines in left field **AND*R/ ONIKOC/ IXIWE/ **PLOEI/DIPH*, (S.2326, Bendall PCPC 91, var. type sigla - [cf.41], DOC Class I, cf.No.224). Flan crack, weak in places as usual, otherwise good very fine and very rare, the sigla unlisted.
