NEW ZEALAND, cheque No. 246, drawn on the Union Bank of Australia, Nelson, April 9th, 1842, payer Arthur Wakefield, payee Mr. Wm. Ernest Wilkinson, for nine pounds five shillings. Spike hole, otherwise fine and rare.

Arthur Wakefield was the second brother of Edward Gibbon Wakefield, founder of The New Zealand Company. Wilkinson was on the "Whitby" when she arrived in Nelson in November 1841. His occupation shown as "Improver".
