SHAYBANIDS, Muhammad Shaybani, (905-916 A.H.; A.D. 1500-1510), silver tanka, Herat mint, dated 914 (1508-9), (A.2978.2); another `Abd Allah II, (991-1006 A.H.; A.D. 1583-1598), silver tanka, Bukhara mint, dated 999 (1590-1), (A.2995). Very fine, broad flans, weak in places. (2)

The Shaybanids were an Uzbeck dynasty ruling from Samarkand and Bukhara. Silver coins of these rulers were rarely seen in the West before 1980 and have become more available with the modern countries occupying the old Shaybanid territory today having more western contacts.
