SIR ANDREW FOUNTAINE (1676- 1753) 1744 IN BRONZE (56MM) BY J.A. Dasier (Eimer 590; M.I. ii, 590/ 236). Dusty brown with strong traces of mint red, nearly uncirculated.

Ex Spink Sale 115 (lot 2212, the property of Cmdr Andrew Fountaine RNR Retd) and L.R. Smith Collection. Sir Andrew Fountaine (1676- 1753), the celebratyed archaeologist and numistmatist, succeded Sir Issac Newton his death in 1753. He also served as Master of the Mint 1737- 1744. Jacques Antoine Dassier, the Swiss medallist, was assistant - engraver at the Mint 1742- 1745.
