POLICE FORCE OF VICTORIA, Plain Clothes, identification medallion in nickel (35.5mm) c.1902-1947, obv. the Imperial Crown surrounded by a circular title band with the words 'Police Force of Victoria', rev. a laurel wreath surrounded by numerals '96' outline impressed with horizontal striation, manufacturers mark below the wreath in relief 'Stokes & Sons Melb'. Very fine and rare.

Identification Medallions were issued to men serving in Plain Clothes and in the Criminal Investigation Branch (C.I.B.) c.1902-1947. This type replaced the larger issue used during the reign of Queen Victoria.
