THE THIRD GREAT SEAL OF NEW SOUTH WALES, by Thomas Wyon for George IV, wax impression in contemporary tin. Repaired, nearly fine and very rare.

Ex L.R.Smith Collection (from our sale 44 in March 1994). The reverse depicts Industry (or Britannia, seated receiving the new arrivals 9convicts) in the foreground, in the background there is a church and Port on the hills, used in the first postage stamps in 1850 and known at the Sydney View'. This seal was used as important state documents usually by the Govenor himself (see Gullick p7, King NAA 5 pp3-8)
