Shoestring-Smith R. Robinson, 17th Lancers. One of four troops of this unit beseiged in Mafeking at the outbreak of war. Mentioned in Lord Robert's despatch and London Gazette 04Sep1901. DoD 02Jan1901. With copy of Mafeking Mail (16th May 1900) commending recipient for gallantry.
