ANTONINUS PIUS, (A.D. 138-161), silver denarius, issued 160, Rome mint, obv. laureate, head to right of Antoninus Pius, around ANTONINVS AVG PIVS P P TR P COS XXIII, rev. Pietas standing to left, holding child in each arm, other children before and behind her, around PIETATI AVG COS IIII, (BMC -, cf.RIC 631, cf.C.631, S.-). Darkly toned, extremely fine and apparently unpublished.

The known type similar to this has the reading of the obverse, ending in COS XXIIII. This specimen clearly is only COS XXIII an issue struck prior to his 24th consulship late in A.D.160.
