Ex. Spink Australia Sale 9 (lot 1089). $$ An interesting item of which little is known. It appears to be a promissory note from Queensland probably from the period when the area was known as Moreton Bay. As Stockton Store apparently was established in 1842 (the year Moreton Bay was proclaimed open to settlement), it does suggest it to be a projected issue, probably some ten to twenty years after that date. It is interesting to note that Governor Sir Charles Fitzroy visited Moreton Bay in March 1854 and the area was granted separation from New South Wales in December 1859, and from this date the name of Brisbane dominates the area. No other examples are known and it is an of item of some historical importance.
