VALENS, (A.D. 364-378), AE Medallion 30mms, Rome mint, issued 364-367, (12.59 grams), obv. diademed bust of Valens to right, around D N VALEN S P F AVG, rev. Emperor standing facing, head to right, holding standard and Victory on globe, around RESTITVTOR REIPVBLICAE, in exergue RP, (cf.S.4114, RIC 14b, BMC Medallions 2 [p.98]). Attractive dark green patina, good very fine and very rare. A rare and handsome medallion with an excellent petigree as noted below.
