GORDIAN III, (A.D. 238-244), AE sestertius, Rome mint, issued A.D. 240-242, (20.28 grams), obv. laureate bust of Gordian III to right, around IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, rev. around VIRTVS AVG, Virtus helmeted in military dress standing, head to left, holding branch and spear, shield rests against right foot, (S.2508, RIC 293a, C.390). Attractively toned, nearly extremely fine.
