SYRIA, Kingdom of, Demetrius II, first reign, (145-140 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.93 grams), Antioch mint, issued year 168 = 145-144 B.C., obv. diademed head of Demetrius II to right, fillet border, rev. Apollo seated left on omphalos, holding baton and cornucopiae, on right, BASILEOS and DHMHTRIOV and 0n left YEOV FILADELFOV [NIK]ATOR[OS], to left monogram PA another below HRA, in exergue HXR, (cf.S.7050, cf.Newell SMA 203 with same monograms but year 167, marks unlisted, ACNAC Houghton 218 but laurel wreath border). Slightly off centre, otherwise extremely fine, rare, type apparently unpublished.
