SYRIA, Kingdom of, Alexander I Balas, (150-145 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.73 grams), Antioch mint, issued year 165 = 148-147 B.C., obv. diademed head of Alexander I to right, fillet border, rev. Zeus seated left on throne holding Nike with wreath and sceptre, on right, BASILEOS and ALEXANDROV and on left YEOPATOROS and EVERGETOV, to left monogram AR, to extreme left F, in exergue EXR, (cf.S.7030, cf.Newell SMA 151-153, outer left monogram unlisted, cf.Houghton ACNAC 179). Slightly off centre, otherwise extremely fine, very desireable and rare, marks apparently unpublished.
