MACEDON, Kingdom of, Alexander III, (336-323 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.66 grams), Mesembria mint, issued c.250-175 B.C., obv. head of Herakles to right, with lion skin, rev. Zeus seated to left, eagle in outstretched hand, sceptre in other hand, to left ALEXANDROY, to right [B]ASILEWS, to left under arm, Corinthian helmet to right, under throne legs LA, (S., P.1029, BMC 1029). Large flan, good very fine and a rare variant.

Specimens with these letters were present in the Mektepini (No.20) hoard and Propontis hoard (Nos. 20-25).
