SICILY, Syracuse, Hieron II, (274-216 B.C.), silver sixteen litrai, (13.38 grams), obv. diademed and veiled head to left of Queen Philistis, wife of Hieron II, rev. walking quadriga driven to right by Nike, BASILISSAS above, FILISTIDOS in exergue, star above, K to right, (cf.S.989, Burnett SNR 62, No.34-40). Has been cleaned and very bright, otherwise extremely fine and rare.
