ITALY, Lucania, Velia, (c.350-320 B.C.), silver stater or didrachm, (7.16 grams), obv. head of Athena to left, wearing Phrygian helmet, ornamented with centaur (no visible due to die flaw), rev. lion standing to left, devouring piece of meat held between fore-paws, YELHTWN in exergue, A above, (cf.S.456, Williams 339 [These Dies]). Good fine, rare die combination.

Williams notes only 5 known specimens from this die combination. His illustrated specimen has the same die flaw to almost the same degree.
