JOHN III DUCAS-VATATZES, Empire of Nicaea, (A.D. 1222-1254), base gold hyperpyron, Magnesia mint, obv. Christ enthroned, rev. John and the Virgin, standing facing, (S.2073, Hendy Pl. 31,3). Double struck on the obverse, mounted with small ring support, good very fine.
