REPUBLIC, M. Nonius Sufenas, (c.59 B.C.), silver denarius, Rome mint, obv. Saturn head to right, harpa and conical stone behind, S.C. behind, before SVFENAS, rev. Roma seated to left, being crowned by Victory who stands behind her, SEX NONI in exergue, around PR L.V.P.F.D., (S.-, Cr. 421/1, Syd. 885). Trace of mint bloom, extremely fine and rare thus.

Sextus Nonius, possibly the moneyer's father, in 81 B.C. inaugurated the Ludi Victoriae Sullanae in honour of Sulla's victory at the Colline gate.
