GROUP OF:- Distinguished Service Order-GVIR (1943); 1939-45 Star; Africa Star; Pacific Star; Defence Medal; British War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal; WX1589 Major A. Robinson 2/16th Bn; Africa Star unnamed, others later issue (1970). Very fine.

Together with photographs (captioned by recipient) D.S.O. Warrant; posting details and medical record. D.S.O. Recommendation: It is recommended that Mjaor Robinson be awarded the D.S.O. for his outstanding courage and fine leadership during a dawn attack by the 2/16 Aust. Inf. Bn. on 1st December 1942, against the heavily defended beach posts of the enemy in the Gona Mission area. Several attacks had failed to dislodge the enemy. Major Robinson who was O.C. of a Composite Company, managed to rally a party of fifteen men and with complete disregard for his own safety, led his men forward again and again against seemingly impossible posts which were well dug in, and which were proving such stumbling blocks to our own forces. During the attack Major Robinson was wounded in the shoulder but he continued on and with his men inflicted extremely heavy casualties on the enemy. Again Major Robinson was hit but this time being seriously wounded had to be evacuated, but not before he had urged his men to even greater efforts. He was an example to his men which would be hard to emulate, and his personal courage and leadership was an inspiration to all. His actions alone made it possible for his men to face such heavy fire.
