TASMANIAN VOLUNTEERS MEDAL, 1865, silver medal by Wyon showing on obverse soldier with rifle at the present with legend 'In Defence of Queen and Country', awarded to Thos. H.Magrath, 1st Rifles, Southern District Tasmania. A very early Australian Volunteer medal awarded for shooting and efficiency competitions amongst the Tasmanian Volunteer units. In case of issue with originakl ribbon and suspender bar. Engraved. Very fine and rare.

Thomas H.Magrath was a former Secretary to the Post Office in Hobart. He died Sydney, 24th April, 1898. Ex. Spink Australia Sale 23 (lot 1157).
