MACEDON, kingdom of Alexander III (the Great) (336-323 B.C.), silver tetradrachm, (16.51 grams), Mesembria mint, issued 125-65 B.C., obv. head to r., of Herakles, clad in lion skin, rev. Zeus enthroned holding eagle and sceptre, helmet to l. in field, monograms in left field and under throne. (Price 1107A, S.-). Large flan with attractive well centred obverse, distinctive head and lion skin for such a late issue, uneven reverse surface, otherwise extremely fine/good very fine and a very rare variant.
