DENARIUS CYRENAICA MINT (STRUCK IN THE NAME OF L.PINARIUS Scarpus c. 31-29 B.C.) Obv. AVGR PONTIF horned head of Jupiter Ammon right Rev. IMP CAESAR DIVI F in two lines to left and right of Victory standing right on globe, holding wreath and palm (RIC 535;Craw.546/4;Syd.1281;Bab.141). Slightly ragged edges, otherwise very fine and extremely rare.
Scarpus was in charge of the province of Cyrenaica (Africa) under Antony before the battle of Actium. After that battle he transferred his allegiance to Octavian.
