HONG KONG RELATED. China, The Mercantile Bank of India Limited, ten dollars, 1st July 1916, Shanghai Branch, (P.S443). Altered note to circulate in Hong Kong? Twelve sections of the front of the note and six on the back have had part of the design removed. Chinese characters and the numbers '10' being added to the front of the note in ink. Heavy folds, nearly torn in half and holes along the folds. Fair.
An interesting example of a genuine note that has been altered to try and change its issue status.
