MACEDON, Kingdom of Philip II, (359-336 B.C.), gold stater, (8.64 grams), Colophon mint, issued c.323-317 B.C., obv. head of Apollo to right with laureate wreath, rev. galloping biga driven by charioteer holding goad to right, tripod under horses to right, in exergue FILIPPOV, (cf.S.6663, Thompson Naster I, 12, Jameson 978) Of finest style, perfectly centred, about uncirculated and extremely rare.
