`ALAWI SHARIFS, Sidi Muhammad III, (A.H. 1171-1204) (A.D. 1757-1790), silver riyal (ten dirhams or mitqal), Rabit mint, A.H.1189 = A.D. 1775-1776, (A.592, KM.41, M.-). Squarish flan, off centred, otherwise good very fine and rare.

At first they were rivals to the Sa'dians, the Alawi or Fileyli Sharifs rose to power with the accession of al-Rashid and are still the rulers in Morocco. Sidi Muhammad III coins are anonymous.
