GROUP OF TWELVE: Pacfic Star; British War Medal 1939-45; Australia Service Medal; Vietnam Medal; Defence Force Service Medal; Long Service and Good Conduct Medal (EIIR); Meritorious Service Medal (EIIR); Cross of Gallantry with Bronze Star (Vietnam); Wound Medal (Vietnam); Armed Forces Honour Medal first class (Vietnam); Training Service Medal second class (Vietnam); Vietnamese Campaign Medal. NX49215/27557 T.F.Malone. First, second, third, fourth, sixth & seventh medals impressed. Fourth and twelfth engraved, others unnamed. Court mounted for display. Very fine.

Together with: United States Meritorious Unit Commendation; Unit Citation of the Cross of Gallantry with Palm (Vietnam); presentation plaque from ARVN; photograph of recipient; official correspondence relating to his service in Vietnam; two personal letters to U.S.Army friend; and extract from regimental gazette advising of recipient's death on 13 October 1986. WO2 Malone had seen active service in New Guinea during the second world war with 2/6 Cavalry Commando. As a result of his long service in the ARA he received both the LS&GCM and the MSM. At the outbreak of the Vietnam war, he was posted to the AATTV, serving in South Vietnam between 22 July 1968 and 21 January 1969 and again between 8 April 1969 and 21 October 1969. During this time he was awarded the Vietnamese Cross of Gallantry (with silver star), the Armed Forces Honour Medal 1st class and the Training Service Medal 2nd class as well and the Unit Citation of the Cross of Gallantry with palm and the United States Meritorious Unit Commendation. On 18 January 1969, three days before the end of his tour and while still in-country serving with an ARVN tank unit, his son Corporal Peter Anthony Malone serving with A Squadron, 3 Cavalry Regiment was killed by an enemy mine explosion during Operation GOODWOOD 2.
