TRIO: Crimea Medal 1854 - no bar; China War Medal 1856 - one bar - Canton 1857; Turkish Crimea Medal. W.F. Lambert R.E. First medal only named engraved. Surface scratches on first medal. Generally very fine.

Captain William Francis Lambert became a 2nd Lt. on 2.12.1846; Lt. 22.12.1847 and 2nd Capt. 23.4.1855. He died on 12th August 1858 of wounds received in the assault of Namtow. Lambert was on the scaling-ladder ascending the wall, followed by two sailors. The rifle of the lower one, for some unexpected reason, being probably at full cock, went off: the ball, after passing through the water-bottle hung at the waist of the man above him, entered Lambert's thigh, shattering the bone and dividing the femoral artery. He died in a few hours.
