LANARKSHIRE, New Lanark, Robert Owen's Lanark Mills, two shillings and sixpence or halfcrown, a France, Louis XV, half eau aux louriers, Renne Mint, 1730 counterstamped with 'Payable at Lanark Mills'* in a circle, within 2/6 incuse on field, from a separate punch additional countermark below a quatrefoil in shield (or is it a St. Andrew's Cross within a D (for David Dale who sold his store in 1797) (Davis 87 variety). Part of countermark weak from uneven impression otherwise good fine and very rare.

Ex Glendining's sale 1 May 1985 (lot 217). Seven coins known of this denomination.
