LANARKSHIRE, Glasgow, Thistle Bank, five shillings, a Charles IIII Mexico City Mint eight reales 1798 countermarked as previous except 5/- replaces 4/9 (Davis 79). Countermarks weak on one side otherwise very fine and very rare.

Ex Walter Allen (lot 53) Collection. Eight coins known with 5/- countermark. Issue dates from 1810, puncheon by James Liddel & Co. Glasgow.
