LANARKSHIRE, Glasgow, Sir James Maxwell's Thistle Bank, four shillings and sixpence, a Charles III Mexico City Mint eight reales 1784 counterstamped Thistle Bank in a circle 4/9 in centre, reverse a thistle in centre (Davis 80). Toned good very fine and scarce.

Ex Stack's Sale 6, 7 December 1995 (lot 1616). Forty five coins known with these countermarks. Issue is believed to date from 1804. Puncheon by Robert Gray & Son, Glasgow.
